Even if you have a top performing vehicle

Even if you have a top performing vehicle, you must remember that your battery is still one of the most important parts of the car. Even if it’s the best car in the world, it’s not going to run without the battery. Unfortunately, accidentally leaving the lights on, or having to many electric things running on at once, will leave you with a dead battery. Most people are not aware of their dead battery until the last minute. Then they turn their keys and the car does not start.

When this happens in the middle of the road, people look to jump start their car. This will work, but for some new cars, like hybrids, the car cannot be jumped. If you cannot start the car out by jumping it, you will have to have it towed by a service, so just make sure that you try everything else out first. It could be a bad alternator, or the starter itself. If you are going to be checking under the hood, make sure you have it secure, so that it does not fall on you. Make sure that you check the manual so that you may find out the proper way to deal with the battery. The car manual will tell you what to do, and it’s the best advice. The manual may also be able to tell you how to deal with the dead car battery.

If you are going to jump start the car in the cold, make sure that you are very careful. A dead battery may freeze if the temperature is below 10 degrees. So jumping the car at this temperature may cause an explosion. If you are going to jump the car in that type of weather, make sure you allow the other car to run for a few minutes, with the cables attached, so that the battery warms. You should stand a few feet away from your car, and plan to wait about thirty minutes. Try and find someplace warm to sit in while this happens.

Make sure that you also don’t make the last connection to the battery terminal. A dead battery may off the gas. As you know, the sparks from jumping the car might hen ignite the gas. Instead, you should place the last connection onto a metal surface instead. If you have any, wear glasses or look away when you are making the connection, in case the battery explodes. If your cars headlights turn on and they are on brightly, you should be able to start the car.

Battery, do I need to replace it? How?

You worry about your car/s functionality quite a bit. Is it running in top shape? How are the tires? You check the engine, and you listen for any problems when you are driving. Yet perhaps the most underestimated part of your car and the most neglected item of concern is the battery. Each time you turn your key, an electrical charge is received from the starter motor. This causes a turnover in the engine, and the motor starts running. Thus in this whole process, the battery is the powerhouse of the car. Its sort of like in your body’s cells where mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell. No one really gives credit to the mitochondria…

From opening and closing your windows, to locking and unlocking your doors, to using your windshield wipers and your lights, the battery supplies all of the electric current to keep these devices running. It’s important to care about your battery life and longevity.

Unfortunately, people only worry about their battery when their car does not start.

When this happens, the first place to check for a possible problem is the battery. Sometimes when the temperature drops below freezing, the battery will not start up the cars ignition system right away. Otherwise, you may also want to check the positive and negative starter cables to see if they are corroded or not. If they are corroded, this is an indicator that your battery is leaking its fluid and you should replace it.

Changing your batteries will prove to be a pretty straightforward thing. First you should find the terminals that go along with your battery. You then want to remove the negative terminal. Undo the nut that connects the terminal, and then remove the positive terminal. Then remove the battery, you will have to undue a few nuts. You may then want to clean the area a bit before you install the new battery in.

To install the new battery, work backwards from how you removed it. Place the new battery in the correct position. Tighten the battery clamp. Then, Make sure that the positive and negative terminals line up correctly with the battery. Attach the positive terminal first and tighten it up with the clamping nut. Then attach the negative terminal. Once you have finished all of that you should place some Vaseline on each of the terminals, this will prevent corrosion.

Car battery

What do a car, a forklift, and an operating room have in common? Each one is reliant on power from a lead acid battery. It’s the most important use of lead today! If something was to occur, and we wake up to a world with no lead acid batteries, we either ride horses, bikes or we walk.
If you drive a car, you most certainly have one. Although, it certainly does not end there. Many people are ill advised on the subject of car batteries. Do not fret; we are here to help you on that topic. So, what are car batteries? They are a type of battery that is rechargeable and supplies the electric energy you need in your car. These batteries are usually Starting, Lighting, Ignition (SLI batteries) they start the motor, the ignition system and they power the cars lights. They are usually of a lead-acid type base and provide a 12 volt potential difference. The lead acid battery is made up of a plates of lead and then separate plates of lead oxide. Now for the acid part, these lead solutions are submerged in a 35% sulfuric acid/ 65% water electrolyte solution. So, what is the purpose of all this mumbo-jumbo? Well, all of this causes a chemical reaction that in turn releases the electrons and allows them to flow through conductors to form electricity.
Now, your battery will not live forever. The first and most obvious symptom that you car needs a new battery occurs when you put the key in the ignition and nothing happens. Sometimes, you may hear a small click, which is usually the starter solenoid engaging, but the battery might not have enough power to turn the engine over. So the next step is to attempt to turn the headlights on. If the headlights do not turn on, then the battery might be completely dead. You would thus have to check the battery out. If the batter is below 11 volts, it probably needs to be replaced. This too, may be a difficult task. It may be tough to even spot it under the hood. Just look for a big square box with two big lugs on top or two big cables. The two big identifiers of the car battery are the two big lead terminals and the two big cables leaving them.
Once you have decided that the battery is dead, you must go about picking up a new one. The guys at the auto part store will probably know what kind of battery to get for you car, otherwise you may get the wrong type and size. When selecting a battery you need to have enough amperage for the appropriate engine that you are trying to crank over. Diesel engines require a lot higher cranking amperage because of the increased compression of the diesel engine. There are cranking amps called CA and CCA (cold cranking amps). When a battery is cold, it’s not as efficient s when it’s warmed up. When it’s cold outside, you need a large reserve of cranking amperage to turn the engine over. A diesel truck requires 200% to 300 % more cold cranking amps than gasoline cars, so keep this in mind.
